Women in Entrepreneurship: Angie White
Apr 27, 2023 ● By Maria Hayes
What do you normally think of when you think of a woman entrepreneur? To me it looks like a lot of sweat, blood, tears (so many tears), the emotional roller coaster, the second guessing and questioning of your own sanity on a minute-by-minute basis.
I am not only a woman, but I am also an entrepreneur. I know the grind and hustle that it takes, even to think that you can be an entrepreneur as a woman, competing in a world created by men. I do not say this lightly. This is a struggle for most women in business. Constantly trying to pave a road that no woman has gone down before, if so, not many women preceded us, so the path is left for us to create.
Every month, I am going to introduce you to a local women entrepreneur, highlight their story, share their struggles, their victories, and few words of encouragement. Hopefully, to encourage you to continue to dream big and create your own destiny as each of these women strive to do.
Meet Angie White, she not only is a businesswoman, a mother and a strong stakeholder in the community but she is also a woman who straightens other women’s crowns. Angie White's story starts out with her working in restaurants throughout her career. She helped several people open up their own restaurants and wasn't new to the struggles and complications that come with it.
When her husband, Jeff, retired from the military, they visited Austin, Tx. Whilst visiting, they noticed that the food truck scene there had already taken off and they wanted to bring that idea, tweak it to their liking and create something Columbus had never seen before.
So on July 16. 2018 Angie White took Columbus, Ga. by storm when her Tuesdays Taco Truck hit the scene. She brought her love of creating exquisite food and infused her husband's love of Southern California cuisine and cultivated an entirely mouthwatering experience. As Dolly Patron says, "If you don't like the road you are on, pave a new one!"
Tuesdays Taco Truck manifested into a following of taco lovers, encouraging Angie to really dive deeper into her dream and open her own restaurant. So, she did. Almost three years later, `Tuesdays Street Tacos & Burritos restaurant opened on April 26, 2021 and has been nonstop ever since.
Through all the challenges that Angie faced curating her dream into reality, the biggest challenge for her was constantly having to prove herself to the older generation of businessmen. Angie learned that if you want to be successful, prepare to be doubted and tested. She struggled through this process of constantly being second guessed by surrounding herself with other women who also business owners. She even started a Women in Business group on Facebook to create a safe place for women to come and ask questions, share resources, meet up and feel empowered without feeling judged. She stayed motivated through her struggles and used the negativity to stay consistent and be victorious. In the end, Angie's success was in crafting the perfect atmosphere and more phenomenal food.
For those of you who may be struggling yourselves to follow your dreams and start your own business, here is a little advice from Angie, "Surround yourself with likeminded people, that not only share in your passions, but also can help you build up your weaknesses."
So, my fellow women entrepreneurs, just remember, it's ok if you fall apart sometimes, tacos fall apart, and we still love them! Take Angie's advice, grab some other women in business (maybe even join the Facebook group), gather your motivation and dream big.
I believe in you!
