High School Baseball’s regular season wraps up as teams get ready for postseason

As the regular season in High School Baseball in Alabama and Georgia will wrap up in the next couple of weeks, several Baseball teams are poised to make a deep run in the State Playoffs starting with the Lagrange Grangers.
The Grangers are peaking at the right time. Currently they stand with a 21-8 overall record and are 12-1 in region 4- AAAA. Lead by Head Coach Donnie Branch, last season they fell short of a championship losing to North Oconee in a 2-game series the GHSA 4A State Championship Game.
Their crosstown rival Troup County is looking to return to the postseason, after having an incredible run to the quarterfinals last season, they were able to knock off West Laurens in 2 games and Marist in 3 games after losing game 1. The Tigers would then lose to Benedictine in a 3-game series. Troup County finished with a 17-10 overall record and 7-6 in the region. They faced Lagrange for a crucial 2 game series that knocked them out of contention for the playoffs and ended their season.
Down I-185 in Columbus, Baseball has always been on the big stage, The Columbus Blue Devils currently have a 19-10 overall record and 6-2 in region play. Columbus is winners of 12 State Championships but they have not won a title since 2012. The Blue Devils are trying to return to the playoffs after the reclassification since they have gone down to 3A. The Northside Patriots, who won a State Championship at 4A in 2019, moved up to 5A and they are hoping to return to the playoffs after missing out on the postseason in 2022. As the Patriots are in a new look region, they currently stand at 14-11-1 overall and 7-5 in region play. They face Chamblee on the road for a best-of-three series in the First Round of the GHSA 5A State Playoffs. Harris County is back in the playoffs once again as they finished the season with an overall 19-10 record and 9-3 in region play. They will host Tucker for a best-of -three series in the First Round of the GHSA 5A State Playoffs.
Over in 4A, the Shaw Raiders look to host their first home playoff series in over 10 years. After taking 2 out of 3 against Westover, the Raiders finished the regular season with a 19-10 overall record and 7-5 in region play. They will host Spalding in the First Round of the 4A State Playoffs.
The Carver Tigers have shown much improvement in year two under Head Coach Michael Long Jr. as they currently post a 8-17 overall record and 1-7 in region play as they picked up a 15-4 victory over region opponent Monroe.
In 2A the Jordan Redjackets finished with a 11-10 record and 8-6 in region play and was able to make the playoffs, but they will travel to Appling County for the best of three series.
In the GIAA, St. Anne-Pacelli under first year Head Coach Adam Thomas, look to make a postseason run as they currently stand at 11-7 overall with a 7-2 record in region play. The Brookstone Cougars, who took 2 out of 3 in the regular season over their longtime rival Pacelli, are on the doorsteps of hosting a home playoff game, they stand at 12-13 overall and 8-4 in region play.
In the GAPPS, Calvary Christian Head Coach Steve Smith is no stranger to winning. Already coaching the Knights to 4 State Championships, Coach Smith has a strong team this year with a 18-5-1 record and 2-0 in region play.
In Alabama, Head Coach Tim Fanning is looking to keep the tradition alive of the Glenwood Gators winning State Championships at the AISA. The Gators have not won one since 2017 but they are long overdue. They currently have a record of 40-4 and are 13-1 in region play. The defending 7A State Champion Central Red Devils have a strong team returning. With a 11-5 overall record and 2-1 in region play, they are poised to win one of the toughest regions in the state of Alabama along with Auburn and Smiths Station
