“CABARET” at the Springer Opera House – A Captivating Evening of Live Theatre

Nov 30, 2023 ● By Bill Evans

The conundrum with reviews is that they come after the event, leaving you with the unfortunate missed opportunity to experience what I can only describe as a true gem in the world of live theatre. If you have even a sliver of interest in the arts, you would have been fortunate to witness "CABARET" at the Springer Opera House this past October.

"CABARET" graced the stage in the intimate McClure Theatre, a venue perfectly suited to the production. John Van Druten’s iconic play has graced the stage countless times, and over the years, I’ve had the privilege of seeing this musical performed in various forms. However, this particular rendition was one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve encountered, from the very first note to the final curtain call.

The cast, staging, lighting, and sound design all came together seamlessly, creating an illusion so vivid that, at times, I forgot I was in Columbus, GA. Christian Becerra’s portrayal of the enigmatic Emcee was nothing short of magnificent, guiding the audience through the unfolding story with charisma and flair. But it wasn’t just Christian; the entire cast delivered outstanding performances that left an indelible mark on the audience.

Regrettably, I can’t urge you to see "CABARET" now, as it has already concluded its run. However, what I can wholeheartedly endorse is not missing any future productions at the Springer Opera House this season. "CABARET" was my second show this season, with "ELVIS" as the first. Both of these productions deserved to be sold out every night, given the exceptional quality of the performances and the production as a whole. Treat yourself to the enchantment of live theatre and help us fill the seats of this remarkable venue for every performance.

The Springer has something for the kids as well. The Springer Children’s Theatre presents "THE LION, THE WITCH, and the WARDROBE." One of the best things you can do for your kids is expose them to the experience of LIVE THEATRE.

Up next on the roster are "ELF" and "A TUNA CHRISTMAS." If my enthusiasm sounds like a resounding endorsement of the Springer Opera House, then you’ve hit the mark. I absolutely support this institution, and I urge you to do the same. You won’t be disappointed. So, join them for a season filled with artistic brilliance and unforgettable performances at the Springer Opera House – it’s an experience you won’t want to miss!
