Business Spotlight: The Mallard Insurance Group
May 27, 2025 ● By Bill EvansI love conducting our Business Spotlight interview every month. This month, I sat down with Josh Whitehead of the Mallard Insurance Group. Josh’s passion for teaching and serving his customers was so refreshing, we invited him to contribute a monthly column to help us better understand the complexities of insurance.
Bill: First off, congratulations on the new company, Mallard Insurance Group. For the past 11 years, you’ve been a very successful, top-performing Allstate Insurance Agency. Why the change?
Josh: Forming Mallard Insurance Group has given me access to a broader range of products. As a captive agent, I could only offer one company’s policies. That didn’t sit well with me. My heart is in educating clients and giving them both a voice and a choice. Now, as an independent agent, I can offer products from multiple carriers, providing more options and competitive pricing.
Bill: Having access to multiple insurance companies definitely seems like a big advantage. What does that mean for your customers?
Josh: The advantage now belongs to my clients. With multiple carriers, I can retain families who have grown with my agency. As rates fluctuate, I go to work to find coverage at the most competitive price without compromising protection. That means higher satisfaction and better long-term relationships.
Bill: I believe you’re the only RAMSEY TRUSTED PRO for insurance in the entire Chattahoochee Valley. That’s a big deal. What was the vetting process like?
Josh: Dave Ramsey has changed my life. I’ve followed his teachings for the last five years, and they led me to financial freedom. Becoming a Ramsey Trusted Pro wasn’t easy—it was a rigorous process because they take their values seriously. Being chosen gives us instant credibility, and I’m proud to display that shield.
Bill: Another change is your ability to now help businesses with commercial insurance. What does that mean for your business clients?
Josh: As a business owner and the child of two small business owners in Columbus, I have a unique perspective. You could say I’ve been preparing for this my whole life. I understand the demands of running a business, and I want to be the personal insurance department that business owners can rely on. My team is in the background making sure your coverage is right—year after year.
Bill: Your logo features the Mallard duck. You’re a lifelong Columbus resident, an avid hunter and golfer, and a former college baseball player. I’ve seen firsthand your passion for your family and this community. What does it mean to you to serve this area?
Josh: Columbus and the surrounding areas are full of great people. The best part of my job is making a real impact in their lives. I believe in “people helping people.” When locals support local businesses, it strengthens our entire community.
Bill: This is an exciting new chapter for you and your team. What’s the easiest way for people to connect with you, and what’s your biggest piece of advice for our readers?
Josh: Call me old school, but I love a good conversation. You can reach us at 706-780-6009. If you prefer online, visit mallardinsurancegroup.com. My biggest advice? I know insurance can be a love/hate relationship. It’s frustrating when rates rise even if you haven’t filed a claim, but it’s a lifesaver when tragedy strikes. At Mallard Insurance Group, we find the balance. We offer diverse carriers so you can stay protected without overpaying. I’d love to meet you.
