On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and read General Order No. 3, officially informing enslaved individuals that they were free. This pivotal event marked the true end of slavery in Texas. Today, Juneteenth embodies resilience, hope, and the ongoing struggle for equality. Celebrations often include educational programs, cultural events, and discussions about civil rights and social justice.
